You Are Loved

Those first hints of warmth
in the morning,
the first rays when they hit you,

they’ve been eight minutes on their journey
and five billion years
in their making.

This heat has sought you
through millions of miles of darkness
that knew no life.

You Are Loved appeared in the Monsoon 2021 Edition of Almost Island.
It is dedicated to black men around the world. Originally written on Jan 16, 2020.
A second version of the poem was completed on Aug 25, 2021. It will appear in my first collection.
