Lift something up today
that you would otherwise leave untouched
a book, a promise,
a room full of tension
groceries for a neighbor
maybe a song upon your tongue
a poem in your step, encouragement for a friend
lift the day from its weary path
lift feet, lift hands and maybe even your head
to see the things you’ve been avoiding
lift seeds to untended gardens
thoughts to new places
relationships to fresh pages
lift bread to trampled neighborhoods
lift the corners of your mouth.
