How many drenched pillows
in America today
mommies & daddies
again feeling helpless
again bring their little ones
into their beds
you can’t sleep alone tonight
let me hold you while I can
before you become
a face on the news
before we gather
knees on worn pews
that have seen too much grief
over lives that ended
while we argued
about how or where or when
a gun is available
about how or where or when
a gun is a toy
about how or where or when
a gun is a weapon
Rest in peace little ones. We utterly and totally failed you.
For the families of Uvalde.
